Applied Hydrodynamics

ENTRY GUIDELINES
A knowledge of basic calculus (differential and integration principles)
and mechanics (forces, moments, motion in a circle) is assumed.

- Introduction to the flow of water around objects
- Laminar and turbulent flows
- Boundary layers, flow separation and wakes
- Cavitation
- Drag on objects
- Drag coefficients for typical objects; drag minimisation
- Resistance of ships
- Tank testing for ship resistance; scaling
- Planing Craft
- Lift of Foils
- Ocean Waves
In addition, the following optional extra lectures will also be
offered (subject to student numbers).
