Survey
Western Australia has an internationally important high-speed vessel industry and most of Australia’s offshore oil and gas production. The Navy has a significant presence in the State, and fishing and sailing are also an important part of the economy. However, there is currently little university teaching in maritime technology, particularly where naval architecture and maritime engineering are concerned. To meet this demand, Curtin University is currently investigating opportunities to set up undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, higher degree by research or unaccredited short courses in the marine technology area.
The fields interested may include marine engineering, naval architecture, maritime engineering, marine technology, underwater technology, offshore engineering and underwater acoustics. Consideration may also be given to including coastal engineering, applied oceanography, marine instrumentation, marine transportation, port and harbour operations, and maritime archaeology.
