AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Experimental and theoretical research in ocean acoustics and Arctic acoustics, including low frequency sound propagation, bottom-interacting acoustics, acoustic tomography of ocean environment and sea floor sediments, ice scattering, acoustic thermometry of ocean climate (ATOC), signal processing, and design of acoustic receiving arrays.

RECENT RELEVANT ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Participation in the international Heard Island Feasibility Test Experiment as a PI of the Russian team of R/V Akademik Andreyev (January 1990);
  • Participation in the US-Russian Trans-arctic Acoustic Propagation Experiment as a Co-PI of the project and Chief Scientist of Ice Camp Turpan (April 1994);
  • Member of the Joint US-Russian Science Working Group on Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Acoustic Thermometry of Ocean Climate (1995 - present);
  • Participation in the US-Russian Arctic Climate Observations using Underwater Sound (ACOUS) Program and the ACOUS Experiment (1998 - present) as a Co-PI of the Program;
  • · Studies of acoustic propagation loss in the Arctic Ocean conducted for Office of Naval Research (2001 - 2002).
