Underkeel clearance

This project with Australian Reef Pilots involved the measurement of squat, heel and wave-induced motions on 11 bulk carriers, tankers and containerships transiting the Torres Strait. Three RTK GPS receivers were positioned on each vessel, together with a moving GPS base station on an escort vessel. Despite the remote location and long 40nm transit with no possibility for using a fixed base station, RMS errors in vertical and horizontal position of each moving vessel were within 65mm in calm water and 120mm in rough water.
