Centre for Marine Science and Technology (CMST)
Founded in 1985, the Centre for Marine Science and Technology (CMST) comprises a multi-skilled group of scientists and engineers committed to the development of technical ocean-related skills in Australia. The Centre has earned a reputation as a high-quality marine technology research and development facility responsive to industry and government needs.
Our mission is to serve the current and future needs of our customers (in industry, government, defence, not-for-profit organisations, and the community) through basic as well as applied research and development in our core R&D competency: underwater acoustics.
Our vision is to operate as a Centre of Excellence in marine science and technology that is recognised locally and internationally for the relevance of R&D outputs, the strengths of its strategic alliances, the quality of its graduates, and the responsible and ethical approach it takes to its staff and students.
CMST has expertise in marine soundscapes, underwater acoustic modelling, marine habitat mapping, bioacoustics, the impact of sound on the marine environment and stereoscopic imaging.
The centre works in close cooperation with other areas in Curtin including Physics and Astronomy, Ecology, Geology, Subsea Engineering, Spatial Science, and the Remote Sensing and Satellite Group.
CMST now has a branch at Curtin Mauritius!
